The YouTube Crawl No. 2
(correction appended)
Paul Dateh began learning violin at the age of four.
He was supposed to study classical music when he first wen to the University of Southern California’s Thorton School of Music. On his first day, he switched to jazz. Ever thereafter, he has began incorporating hip hop with both of them.
“I just want to show that you can bring classical music and make it still relevant to people,” Dateh says in his “About” video at pauldateh.com. “And, bring hip-hop to classical music and make it all just work.”
Dateh is in his early 20s, according to LA Weekly online, but he doesn’t like to be precise. He likes to make people guess. And he gets embaressed when 12-year-old girls flirt with him.
Again, I have to give credit to my little brother for showing me this video. I’ve been watching it on YouTube wondering when is this guy is going to do something else? Of course, he already was. In researching for this post, I discovered he has been touring and performing with various hip-hop artists. And, he has a self-titled release due out on Tuesday, January 27. It will be available for download at iTunes and Amazon MP3, and in hard copy at CDBaby.com.
Guess what I’ll be listening to?
Read Paul Dateh: Hip-Hop Violinist Superhero by Night, Mild-Mannered Bookstore Clerk by Day, at LA Weekly online.
Correction: This post was intended to be the only one for Wednesday, January 21. Due to a publishing error, “How To Be Alone” was inadvertantly published with it. The unfinished post has been removed and will appear at a later date.
If you like classical music with a bit of edge and energy you should check out Time for Three, a very cool group playing at Hancher next month. Access Iowa is hosting a preview of them at Daniel Arthurs on February 11th at 6:00pm and it’s free. You can hear some of their music at http://www.tf4.com but they are really great live.
Awesome Talent.
Time for Three is awesome! They’re going to perform at Daniel Arthur’s on February 11th starting at 6 p.m. There will be FREE appetizers, happy hour specials, and two sets of tickets given away for their concert. Everyone should go–they are totally not your typical group of classical musicians. :)
